The Role of Data in AI

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is often seen as smart machines doing amazing things—like recognising faces, driving cars, or answering questions. But behind every smart AI system is something even more important: data.

Think of data as the fuel that powers AI. Just like a car needs petrol or electricity to run, AI needs data to learn and make decisions. This data can come in many forms—photos, text, numbers, videos, or even your voice.

When you upload photos, search the internet, or use smart assistants like Alexa or Siri, you're helping create more data. AI uses this information to learn patterns and improve its performance. For example, to teach AI to recognize cats in pictures, it must see thousands of cat images. The more data it has, the better it becomes.

Good data leads to smart AI. But if the data is incorrect, biased, or missing, the AI can make wrong decisions. That's why it’s so important to use accurate and fair data when building AI systems.

In short, AI is only as smart as the data it learns from. Data shapes how AI sees the world and how well it works.
